Visual Design Works

For more experimental designs, take a look at some of my creative coding projects.

Photography Prints

I’ve been taking photos since I was old enough to hold a plastic single-use film camera. However, when the pandemic struck, I found myself wanting to take the hobby to a more serious level. Essentially, I started consciously practising the craft, being more mindful and deliberate about the kinds of photos I’m taking. I’ve found that I’m fascinated by finding abstract scenes and beauty in something most would consider ugly or mundane. Recently I’ve gravitated towards film photography, as there is something special about the limited, yet refined user experience of using an analog medium.

With the intention also came the idea to start printing my work. Physical artifacts of your own work do somehow feel more meaningful. I’ve put together several photobooks over the past few years and even designed a business card to hand out when appropriate.

My photography portfolio can be found here.

Eng+Psy / THE LAB

The engineering psychology group is one of the newer HCI-focused research groups at Aalto University. During my time there as a research assistant, I had the opportunity to work on the visual branding for the group.

The ENG+PSY. logo is intended to serve as the main brand element for the group. It can be utilized in slide decks, posters, name tags or information sheets to signify relation to the group’s activities. The typeface for the logo is Space Mono, the futuristic visual character of which emphasizes the centrality of emerging technologies in the group’s research work. The plus sign symbolizes the cross-disciplinarity of the group and the period the determination to produce high-quality research. The orange color is that of the Aalto University School of Science.

The technology, human-systems and experience laboratory (THE LAB) is a shared user research laboratory space at the Aalto University Department of Computer Science, managed by the engineering psychology group. This branding was produced based on an initial idea by group leader and assistant professor Robin Welsch, which I then updated to match the branding for the group.

Study Recruitment Posters

A challenging key part of doing on-site user studies in a laboratory environment is attracting potential participants. For this purpose, I was tasked with designing posters and flyers that could be spread around the campus. Due to urgent turnaround speeds, freely available assets (patterns, icons, illustration) have been utilized in the making of these.

Cover Art

I’m a lifelong musician, having started playing the cello at the age of 6 and getting curious about digital music production in my teens. Between 2011 and 2020, I produced and published dozens of tracks, four albums and an EP, inspired by the soundtracks of games I used to play as a kid. Some of the music is available on Spotify. Over those years, being quite DIY-spirited, I also spent hours upon hours creating cover art for individual tracks and the larger released.
